Super growth points to more Australian investor offshore activity in future
We continue to expect increased activity by Australian investors in offshore markets as the volume of superannuation funds increases in coming years. According to the Cooper Review to put this in perspective, the super pool was equivalent to 47% of Australian Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 1996, was 90% of GDP in 2009 and is expected to reach 130% of GDP by 2035. Currently superannuation assets total approximately $1.90 trillion, contributions are growing at approximately $97 billion per year.
