I've heard that some of the major funds do short as a hedge to their index funds but the extent to which they do this is pretty guarded. I have noticed in the past few weeks that "Aus Super's International Shares" allocation has not performed as badly as the broader indexes on down days. It is purely an assumption though that this is the case.
