Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster invented the Superman character, and the first stories while in high school in 1933.
They struggled to sell the idea to any publisher for years and finally sold all the rights to Detective Comics in 1938 for $130 equivalent to less than $2500 in today's money.
If you owned a pristine copy of the #1 issue of the Superman Comic of Summer 1939, (original cost of one dime), it would fetch at least US$3.2 million.
For maths buffs that represents a compound interest of 22% on 10 cents for 79 years.
Christopher Reeve was the best of the Superman Actors, starring in the 1978 version.
This 5 minute clip essentially covers all the attributes of the "Man of Steel", and his love interest, Lois Lane.
