Further to my last post Google tells me that
"Our hypothetical 1 MW electrolyzer costs just $100,000. Over 12,500 hours it consumes 12,500 MWh, producing 156,250 kg-H2, costing just $0.64/kg-H2 for capex.16 Aug 2023"
Now lets say that you run it for three hours per day and get $2 (the magical number) per kilogram for the hydrogen produced
In one year at three hours per day you produce (3*365/12,500*156,250*2) =$27,375
Now lets say you can borrow money at 6% and the electrolyser has a design of 10 years. In each of the ten years you pay the interest
bill, and pay off the capital cost at $10,000 dollars year
Year interest capital payback profit
1 6000 10000 $11,375
2 5400 10000 $11,975
3 4800 10000 $12,575
and so on
Doesn't look like a bad deal to me. I note that i have not considered any maintenance costs but more importantly I have not considered
all those windmills which are being installed and which will produce electricity on windy nights when everyone is asleep. What better to do with it than feed it in to my electrolyser.
