In relation to the Toyota Plant in Altona.
Last year 3000 union members went on strike seeking a 12% pay rise over three years. The Company had offered 11%. The strike lasted approximately 5 days and cost Toyota millions.
During the GFC Toyota trained staff in additional skills rather than lay them off. This is consistant with their 'harmonious' work place strategy designed to engineer good staff relations.
Toyota were dumbfounded by the actions of unionists last year and said at the time that their actions put in jeopardy jobs.
Well today the chickens came home to roost.
Union leaders should apologise to the workers whose jobs they have destroyed.
