Maybe they needed a tax write off, just struggling to trust anything from this mob. It is hard to know what is real, what is bad luck, what are lies and cons, what I know is the BOD are the only ones who clearly have benefited from this fiasco so I am sure they are not overly too concerned about the collateral damage.
