Yes you can do that. The sp almost always will retrace back the the cr price and sometimes it will dip lower. So they could be bought on market, although that will incur brokerage unlike partaking in the spp. The risk of the spp is not getting the full amount and then your money is tied up for a couple of weeks until it is refunded
