This country is full of short sighted selfish morons! Yeah, lets stop exporting coal too as the Greens want and let the importers of coal go elsewhere to purchase the product. Yeah, lets put more Australians out of work...lets refuse to allow under privileged people to have access to fresh meat while we are at it.

Go to any Asian or and Middle Eastern country to the markets and check out how thousands upon thousands of impoverished people buy their fresh meat.
They don't buy it in a sanitised Coles Supermarket from a huge refrigerator in pretty cling wrapped packaging under bright lights.
They buy it unwrapped, unrefrigerated, but fresh, slaughtered the same day and they take it home and they cook it the same day for their family.
That is besides the animals slaughtered a certain way to appease certain religions all over the world.

The live sheep export trade and the live cattle export trade are highly regulated in this country. We carry out this activity far better than any other country does especially regarding the ongoing welfare of the animals.
If we ban it, other countries with no or few regulations will take it up again and let the animals suffer a whole lot more than the occasional one may do now.

Why destroy another heap of Farmers livelihoods because of an occasional instance of negligence by someone out of their control?
The Farmer raised their sheep carefully and humanely with the expectation of selling them to an overseas buyer to feed his own family.

The transport companies transported the animals with care to the holding yards and earned some money so the drivers could be paid so as to have a job and feed their families.

The employees at the holding yards ensured the animals were fed and watered, they make sure the sheep can feed out of a trough arrangement, and they have the animals staying in a tighter environment prior to loading onto the ships so they are accustomed to being that way. These folk are paid and they use their wages to feed their family.

The Feed Lot suppliers employ drivers to deliver product to the holding yards and wharves so the animal are fed and watered while on board the ships. These people use their wages to feed their family.

The receivers at the other end are looking forward to receiving sheep that can be fattened some more then sold to people who have no refrigeration so these thousands of people have access to fresh meat...people who do not have refrigerators or freezers.

Then some employed crewmen on board a ship have a careless attitude and allow some animals to suffer in a way they should not, in a way the industry does not condone and would stop on the spot such activities or behaviour.

In fact most animals put on weight while in transit, there always will be an animal that unfortunately may fall sick in transit, or has a weakness that becomes apparent...same thing happens in the journey from the Farmer to the Abattoir.

In a past life I have travelled on sheep transporters and observed animals fall and be stood on by other animals, it can happen...it is no ones fault. That is why they pack the animals in tightly to try to prevent them falling.

Anyway, so that is the reason thousands upon thousands of people should go without meat? Because some idiot somewhere didn't give a damn?

Honestly...I cannot believe some of the uninformed opinionated stuff I read here and in the Newspapers. So so many people plainly living in a vacuum...

    Rant over...
