SA probes bird deaths at Olympic Dam mine
The South Australian Government has ordered a report into an increase in the number of bird deaths at the Olympic Dam mine.
WMC Resources informed the Government about the increase, which has seen 100 birds killed over a recent four day period.
Most of those killed have been waterbirds.
Environment Minister John Hill says the Government is taking the matter very seriously.
"We're not sure whether the systems have changed or if there's a lack of understanding about what really has been happening in the past," he said.
"We really need to thoroughly investigate this. We're asking the departments to get together a report for the Government and Western Mining to have a look at."
