Indeed some of the posters here seem to think that the mining companies own the minerals or as shareholders of those companies they own them.
It's past time that the message was driven home loud and clear that you don't. Every citizen of this country owns them. Mining companies have legal arrangements with the government acting on our behalf to dig up and sell our minerals.
The government acting on behalf of all Australian's may set whatever conditions it likes on the permissions it gives to miners to extract and sell our national mineral wealth.
It is the duty of the government to ensure that every Australian gains the maximum benefit from the sale of our national mineral assetts.
In the past that has not been happening and it's about time it did.
