Is it reasonable to think that there won't be local companies doing UCG in North America? My only problem with it is that they are all private, so you can't buy shares ... :-)
FWIW Swan Hills look quite impressive to me. For example, they have experimented with very deep UCG, which no-one else has AFAIK. They also reckon to have identified 2 trillion tonnes of UCGable coal in Alberta, though obviously they don't own it all.
Alberta is a bit of a difficult place to be doing this though, since you are competing with the oil sands and shale gas, both of which are similar ideas and already well established.
Whatever, none of this detracts from what Linc are doing, which is (IMO) exactly right. Do the land grab before the tech becomes "adopted", but also be one of the main driving forces behind that adoption, so you have some control over events.
