50, if the US had adopted your plan of regulation, even in a small way we would not be in half the mess we are in. Having said that gov't can't control the capitalist system of boom bust. they can only regulate so as things don't get outta hand. the howard gov't got caught in the wrong part of the economic cycle coming up to the election and labor played all dumb and yelled loud about it to the public.
Now Wayne Swan is treasurer and he is subject to the same forces the libs were. he appears to have egg on his face and is thus trying to shift focus onto the evil banks. not much he can realistically do about it...but I think he already knows that.
