The suggestion was well intended. In fact my understanding talking to retirees in particular is that many formerly self funded retirees are approaching Centrelink given their superannuation portfolios have been smashed due to the global downturn. Assistance from Centrelink by the grant of a part pension etc can be of great assistance in those circumstances. It provides them with a health benefits card and can help take the pressure off having to sell some of their shares for income at current deflated prices.
