but there is the problem for voters - even for savvy swing voters, who take an interest in politics. not many people expected the firebrand union hawke guy to out liberal the liberals and what about keating?? - a guy with limited education.
one thing that hawke/keating did, was to distance themselves from the whitlam years - so the likes of cairns, rex o'conner were all gone. likewise, labor need a completely new team - and all of the people from the krudd/gillard years need to move on - because the krudd/gillard years were a disaster for labor - and those remaining members were outright hopeless in their positions.
mmm - see what good presentation does - but prior to being elected, watso thought that krudd had the goods - and that he was backed by a strong team - and then there was that stupid howard guy, who was long past his use by date and after consulting with his wife and pet cat decided that he was still the man for australia - then got kicked out of his own seat.
these days, watso will probably be a locked in liberal voter, unless there is another bout of some leader going past his use by date, and labor might seem to be a good alternative---oh yeah - and krudd even claimed that he would turn back the boats (or something like that) .
for the good of labor, swannie needs to go - but for the good of australia, he needs to stay as an opposition member. it is probably cheaper to keep swannie as a politician, than to give another person the chance at the perks
