Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson takes the first sod for Seel in Nykvarn

On Wednesday 9 February, Minister of Trade and Industry Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson will travel to Nykvarn to take part in the first sod to the electromobility lab Swedish Electric Transport Laboratory (Seel). The main focus for Seels' facility in Nykvarn will be research and testing in battery technology as well as dynamic testing of components for heavier vehicles and vessels.

Location: Skälbyvägen 7B, Nykvarn

Seel is an open test bed for research and development in electromobility that is jointly owned by the state research institute RISE Research Institutes of Sweden and Chalmers University of Technology. Seel will contribute to high-quality academic research and accelerate the development of the electrified means of transport of the future, primarily for vehicles but also for electrified ships, aircraft and work machines. The test bed is planned to be operational in 2023.

The facility in Nykvarn is one of three planned Seel facilities. Other establishments take place in Borås, where safety tests will be in focus, and in Säve, Gothenburg, where the main facility will be located.

During the visit to Nykvarn, the Minister of Trade and Industry will give a speech and discuss the construction with management and relevant representatives.

- The establishment in Nykvarn is another step in the right direction to achieve a fossil-free and sustainable transport sector, which is necessary to cope with the green transition and create new jobs with good conditions. In the work for climate change and the electrification of the transport sector, Seel has very good prospects of becoming a world-leading test center, says Minister of Trade and Industry Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson.
