Nuetro, Sorry I missunderstood your interpretation of AEEs compensation claim. Unfortunately both Sweden and Australia had signed up to an agreement that protects some legal right of large investors or exploration firms.
As I am not a lawyer, it is difficult to argue from a community perspective. However, from a govt perspective these laws have been put in place to attract investment and creation of local jobs. Australia (which has signed up to same agreement) attract foreign investors engaging in mineral and gas exploration and offers some examples where sudden law changes or community disputes prevent progress. For example, coal seam gas, fracking, and tight gas fracking projects were targeted by protests groups from outside the local area & continued disruption resulted in some projects being stopped. Compensation against the state was then a natural consequence.
Sweden extraction of uranium is now been prevented by a new change to the law and due to environmental group protests in government. Hence there are processes set out to deal with these disputes.
