The head honchos of cricket have decided the word "batsman" has to go. It's now "batter". They could have gone with batsman/batswoman, but batswoman sounds like Batwoman, and in any case the women in the women's team may be transexual, even though it's referred to as a women's competiton. Should they change "women's comp" to "person's comp"? If they do that, then how do they differentiate between the men's and women's competitions? Differentation is sexist. So ok, let's make it just cricket, and anyone of any sex can play. But then the men would dominate everything, and that would be sexist and discriminatory. There'd be a need for a second competition. What to call it? Also, what to call the 12th man? Is he/she now the 12th person? What about the night watchman? Difficult. Let's convene a conference and talk it over.

On a serious note, it probably is difficult for non-standard sexuality people, but I don't see an easy answer without complicating things beyond recognition.
