Of course that can happen, but that wasn't the analogy posed. A uni student may expect that their future earnings power is increasing, but they would hardly expect that their actual current earnings would increase while they were studying. On the other hand, it would be reasonable to expect an actual increase in share price for a company with consistently good earnings and increasing asset values. UOS has had consistently good earnings for many years, however, as an example, you could have bought at the peak in late 2013 for $0.60 and only have just now gotten to a similar share price. Patience over this period was not well rewarded.
Don't get me wrong - I'm very positive about UOS and have held them for more than 20 years. In that time, I've seen lots of people jump on and off the bandwagon. Some of them have done better elsewhere, and some have done worse. Also, UOS has given me better returns than most shares, but many others have performed better.
Anyway, good luck to all holders. I hope your patience is rewarded.
