Did you miss my post about the effect of land clearing on our *local* climate? We *can* help heal that hideous legacy of ignorance and stupidity by planting more trees and it doesn't require a carbon debt or great technological advance or lots of money to do it, just our bodies and brains.

As for a geothermal solution - like any of the alternatives, there is still a carbon debt involved in the mining and manufacture of the plant and machinery to set it up. I'll be interested to see if it does compare well with solar and wind, which typically use more energy in the manufacture of their components than they save in dirty power during their life spans. Unfortunately.
