Sigmund Freud divided the mind into 3, the id, ego and superego. The id was all the wants, selfishness, passions, lusts, and aggression. The superego contained ethics, morality, and benevolence. The ego was the mediator in the middle trying to manage these conflicting urges. In transactional analysis the id is the child, the ego the adult, and the superego the parent. The sins are in the id/flesh. The spirit is in the superego and that is where the wisdom is likely to be found.
People talk about the value of love. The problem is that people whos minds are dominated by the id/flesh dont feel or express genuine love.
