No i agree with you. Perhaps what has changed is that we have access to live information more easily than we would have decades ago. But to counter that, the institutions have their computers and algorithms sitting inside the ASX's datacentres!
I guess my point is - as a retail investors you have two options
1) sit and play the long game and miss out on the ups and downs between the official announcements
2) Ignore the fundamentals (because by the time you hear about them they've already been priced in) and just play the technical movements.
The approach to the above is ultimately a function of how much time you can devote to watching the screen!
