xmoney, you get what you pay for, and gold coast is cheap because it is a horrible place to live(good for a short holiday though)the climate is too extreme during the summer as it is just too hot for many to contemplate living there, and there are no decent jobs on the goldcoast, mostly low paid retail and hospitality jobs that are highly seasonal and dependent on tourism.People earn a bigger wage in sydney and can afford to pay more for property and the climate is perfect very moderate making it desirable for all.culturally sydney has it all over the gold coast.Gold coast has a very fake feel to the place.
