Symonds to be sent home
June 4, 2009 - 7:33PM
Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds is being sent home from the World Twenty20 cricket tournament in England for breaking a number of team rules related to alcohol and other issues.
Symonds missed training at the Oval on Thursday, leading to speculation that the all-rounder could be heading home due to another off-field indiscretion.
Symonds was sent home from a one-day series in Darwin against Bangladesh in August 2008 after missing a compulsory team meeting.
He was fined $4000 in January 2009 after calling New Zealand wicketkeeper Brendan McCullum "...a piece of s..." during a radio interview, when he was affected by alcohol.
Symonds has also been involved in scuffles at nightclubs, and has admitted he has struggled with anger management and alcohol issues.
