    Careful what you wish for...

Australians travelling or living in Lebanon are being encouraged to leave the country "immediately" as the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah reaches boiling point.

The Iran-backed militant group confirmed on Saturday that its commander Ibrahim Aqil had been killed in a "targeted" airstrike by Israel's Defence Forces in Beirut.

The attack reduced two residential buildings to rubble and has left at least 14 people dead, some 66 injured and an unknown number of others trapped under rubble.

Hezbollah said Aqil - who had a $7 million bounty on his head by the United States - was one of several key figures and operatives of the group that had died in the strike.

The latest incident, as well as the deadly pager and walkie-talkie explosions targetting Hezbollah members earlier this week has sparked fears of an all-out war.
