People are thinking on a one dimension regarding “shorters”.

Working on the options and forwards desk in a previous life, we would short one equity or commodity and long another or combination.

In fact, the entire picture was holistic with many combinations of equities, commodities and bonds. I designed a program to calculate that much.

You do not need to cover your naked shorts except by being covered by alternative longs.

This only applies to major trading houses with plenty of liquidity and resources – retailers need not apply.

Trading these days is a mugs game in my opinion – with AI and computer trading it’s a path to failure. I used to "day trade" but not now.

I now follow the Warrant Buffet ideology to buy quality and companies that have a great long-term future.

In my opinion Syrah (and Lynas by the way) fits the bill.
