Shorts are still 16.25% or circa 60+ million shares. I am not surprised they are trying to push this down on some profit taking. Trade deal with China is to be signed today, which is why the broader market is up. EV sales made a strong recovery in December. 2020 will be an even bigger year for EV sales with Tesla ramp up in China and European fines on carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles.
