Goldstream, the writer of this article is possibly arithmetically-challenged. He has not done the simple calculation which would show him that, despite all the hype, graphene is not a significant market for graphite, and never will be. The reason is that graphene is so thin - only one atom thick - meaning that one kg of the stuff has an area of about 750,000 square metres.
A little bit goes a very long way.
Any application that is going to have a visible impact on the graphite market needs to consume something in the range of thousands of tonnes of graphite per year.
Graphene is a fascinating material, with amazing properties, and a huge future in its own right, but we should not let ourselves be carried away (as this writer has) with the idea that it is a significant potential market for graphite. The names are similar, but that's about where the commonality begins and ends.
