Yep, the mainstream media is supporting the US position all the way. Not only big money, I think the US has probably told our government it would be wise to follow their lead.
And as you say, it's all about oil and gas, particularly the Iran-Syria-Iraq gas pipeline which Assad has been against because it would compete with Russia's supply of natural gas to Northern Europe. But Assad is perfectly entitled to take a position on that - it's his country. Saudi Arabia and Qatar shouldn't have been allowed to take advantage of a Syrian domestic dispute by arming the rebels with the intention of getting Assad out of the way. Why didn't the US intervene in that matter? Petrodollars!
