I thought i would share some info send to me on twitter by
@hudster1971 this morning which is intriguing. The query was, whether this was in competition with Syntonic. After delving into the application to see what the go is. This is an application by a brand called Dent. Dent have used the blockchain technology to develop a data market place to buy and sell mobile data from different carriers, irrespective of carrier, as long as they have signed with Dent. You buy "tokens" from Dent and then you can purchase data allotments from them. Pretty simple.
They leverage both Verizon and AT&Ts customers as we do (they dont have an integration deal like us) and have deals with Telefonica and others.
In my opinion, they aren't competition to Syntonic for the following as the data amounts which can be purchased are quite expensive relative to the USD pricing. For instance,it costs .99c USD for 22 tokens. It appears that 22 tokens will buy you 50MB. 440 tokens for $19.99 which will buy you approximately 1GB.
They advised in their FAQ that individual country pricing is relevant in the market place buying and selling of data, however, if the USD is anything to go by, its relatively expensive. In comparison to Overpass for instance, we a single day purchase for .99c can get you unlimited data for particular apps. This may be seen as a downside as the data from Dent can be used on anything, i feel the likelihood of a user downloading the data would require it for the same range of apps Overpass offers contain.
Worthwhile a download and see for yourself. Its free to sign up.
The reason i brought this up is because it falls in line with my previous suggestion regarding International Traveller and the purchasing of data from any carrier, irrespective of geography. It is a potential add on Syntonic could add to the application to have an all round complete package:
1. Sponsored Data for those who can not afford additional data.
This would be for prepaid phone users.
2. Overpass Subscriptions for those who can afford and want unlimited data.
This would be for postpaid customers
3. International traveller for those who wont to banish roaming charges
This would be for either pre or postpaid customers
4. Data market place for carriers to offer data allotments irrespective of customer carrier the consumer is with - increasing competition in data pricing enabling revenue generation for all carriers integrated with the CSP.
This would be for prepaid phone users.
I think the app with this complete package would dominate the market place once reasonable penetration occurs. I know i would seriously use Freeway each and every month to avoid additional data charges, but to also buy the cheapest options depending on the pricing from carriers.
Some images below. Im going to send an email to IR to query them on the potential opportunity.
