A T-bone by a 4wd is actually a very rare collision. Most side impacts are with solid objects such as trees, power poles, barriers and the like.
4WD and SUV vehicles are particularly unsafe in a side on hit; it takes very little to flip one over whereas a sedan will stay upright.
