The big ramp up in the ASM share price last July/August was potentially associated with Van Eck adding ASM to its REMX index. As you can see from these recent numbers it has been reducing its holdings in ASM, primarily with the quarterly rebalances and you could say we have been ramping down for some time so the uplift from the original Van Eck acquisition has well and truly disappeared. On all the current numbers as previously suggested perhaps fasten your belts for the forthcoming rebalance. Based on the criteria for inclusion in the MVIS index Van Eck's holdings might be available to cover some of the short sellers position but then again the shorters might drive the price down even further if Van Eck's holdings are emptied out. The next few weeks will tell if this is the case.
