No short answer to that.
Many books around...Guppy comes to mind as a good one for the newbies.
Some prefer to paper trade first...that is, trade stocks with pretend money...it might seem a bit "motherly" but it can at the very least prepare you somewhat.
Personally, I am self taught...but I don't for one minute suggest that approach to anyone who can't afford it.
For me, it was a mix of reading whatever I could get my hands on, combined with a bit study in the areas of phsychology, econonomics, accounting, business management, candlestick charting and techniques for both fundamental and technical analysis...lol...and last but not least, 12 years of trading.
