Unfortunately, it is not as simple as your example. ASIC reported on 04APR - 508,095 shares sold short. On 05APR, ASIC reported 690,531 shares sold short, a delta of 182,436. However as you pointed out, on 05APR the ASX reported 969,170 shares sold short on that day.
I don't know the reason for this discrepancy, however, others have said that the ASX report includes short positions opened and closed on the same day. One thing I believe I am correct in saying, is that the ASX report never includes negative values - that is, the closing of short positions, so the closing of short positions is reported as a positive value.
Unfortunately, it is not as simple as your example. ASIC...
