your thinking is solid and I would just add that not always the core will carry the highest grades. Sometime, in events of very high fluid migrations, all or most of the Cu, Au.. will be deposited to the outer layers of the porphyry. This is my understanding and I am not a geo but I have read few books and came across examples of barren core.
Visuals can be misleading on both directions so we may get surprised with much lower or much higher grades than anticipated.
