A SHARP rise in iron-ore prices is girding Australia's mining sector.



The spot price for Australia's biggest export by value has soared to almost $150 a tonne, up more than 70 per cent in the past four months.




For miners that took a cautious line in 2012, higher prices and fatter margins make production more economical.
