Social media seems to have expanded the operations of bullies and gossips seeking some form of ego boost via vilifying others. This behaviour has merely found a new outlet, but is nothing new.
It was particularly bad for young women in the 70's. Did you ever read what Anne Summers wrote about the Ingham gang rapes of the early seventies or what went on in elitist colleges? At least we don't hear about abuse that bad now, but there is a long way to go before the abusers wake up to their own evil.
