This is a basic outline of how we generally model open pit mine production costs:

Royalties
Plant Labour Cost
Fuel Cost (mining - transport & handling)
Power Cost (mining - transport & handling)
Explosives and Consumable Cost
Maintenance and Sustaining Capital
Rail Cost
Port Cost

I have reviewed this against what BAU is proposing in the South Darling Range. Being a lone operator with small output will have poor economies of scale, so a lot higher production cost than Alcoa (Huntly and Willowdale) and BHP (Worsley).

Hard to put a figure on it; however, I would say something around US$12/t FOB at today's rates. The rate will vary dependant on fuel costs. Production costs have gone up about 50% in the last five years due to the increase in fuel costs.
