In my opinion, this is indeed a major milestone in MABR usage development.
Just on semi-conductor wafer fab usage alone, a large fab uses up to 38,000 m3/d of ultra pure water, which is equivalent to roughly the consumption of about 300,000 household. On top of it, production of ultra pure water requires about 1.6 m3 input of water for every 1 m3 UPW produced. According to Chandler and Intel in their Arizona fab plant, about 65% of the water used are recycled. So whether from municipal input, desalination or inhouse recycle, that will amount to water needs of a medium to large township. We have now put our foot into this lucrative market segment, and will also help to lower the cost of overall production for our customers in this new water stressed era.
Other industries that need ultra pure water including the pharmaceutical manufacturing; oil and gas; power generation including nuclear power cooling tower; and other microelectronic precision manufacturing industries could be looking our way. These guys would pay for quality, unlike municipals which are more conservative.
I also see this part as a commitment for further development into the industrial sector:
"In view of Taiwan's high-growth economic development support, Fluence believes that Taiwan has highly skilled engineering and capable professionals and resources. Fluence announced that it will establish a wholly-owned Taiwanese company to combine local expertise to develop strategies for the wastewater and reclaimed water reuse market, and in the long run, export this expertise to similar technology-enabled economies around the world."
