For those who have NEVER been to China, I highly recommend you go there and see for yourself.

In the West, we get a "very" different narrative here, to what actually happens there.

Don't get me wrong, they are NOT some kind perfect Gov offering utopia living. Like all countries and governments, they have done some good deeds and some wrongs. No country is perfect. Best to form your own judgement after you have visited.

But the narrative that it is a repressive society and there are many closed regions where you are NOT allowed to travel to, is incorrect.

You can go to regions like Xinjiang - in fact, you can book a flight from any Australian city on Jetstar, Qantas (if you preferred) or any of the Arab airlines.

And you can travel to Lhasa, Tibet to meet locals.

Before the pandemic, millions of foreigners travel in and out of China, every single week - either for tourism or for business.
