China would not need to cross the strait before Taiwans airports, seaports and military bases are destroyed. China even doesn't need to lauch missiles to do the first wave attack as it has far cheaper long range rocket cannons to shell the entire territory of Taiwan island.
If Australia sends arms to Taiwan during the war, these arms will be destroyed once within the 12 nautical miles territorial waters of Taiwans
