That ocean in between China and Taiwan - Xi will have been watching Russian ships "catching fire " in the Black Ses . (Bear in mind soldiers need to be transported over that sea to land on Taiwan .) Other dangers for China too and they wouldn't wish to be embarrassed as Putin has been .
Xi has always said he preferrs to regain Taiwan peacefully . Hard to see that happening any time soon and hard to see Xi taking any military risk anytime soon either . But things can change and things not imagined yet may develop including some potential diplomatic solution . This can will be kicked down the road for a good while .
