The Reserve bank is responsible for monetary policies, it is independent of government so no the government has nothing to do with monetary policies.

Maybe you have mistaken monetary policies for fiscal policies ? Government manages fiscal policies which is taxes and spending which can effect macroeconomic conditions.

How do you expect government to address the problems of builders going broke ? More regulation ? Insurance?

It's hardly the Governments fault if building companies mismanage their business and go broke. There is a number of reasons this happens but it's not things the government controls

"Government should be creating policies that create prosperity for their people."

I'm not adverse to that but that would be socialist policy and the resident RWNJ would not like that

Housing affordability has always been an issue sure, it's worse than ever but if you look at the bigger picture it's simply following the ongoing trend ie property values increase on average 8% pa and hence on average double in value every 10 years.

I am sympathetic to those who are doing it tough but for a lot of people it's their own choices, if you choose to rent you have to expect that at some point the rent will increase and that for what ever reason you may have to be kicked out. After all would it be fair to the owner of the property to be prevented from doing what ever they want with the property they own?

I have recently given up on a brother of mine. Over the years he has worked in high paying jobs, ie construction, offshore oil and gas. He rented homes most of his life then finally did buy a home, when he got divorced he did the smart thing and brought out his wife share of the house. But after the property doubled in value he sold the house, moved into a rental, brought a boat, land cruiser and did a couple of round the world trips.

That was his choice, he still had a fair amount of supper. But this is were it went down hill, he got a on to a pension about 1-2years before he was suppose to and then was able to with draw his supper, he took it all out. I don't know how many times this but at least once he brought a $32k system lotto ticket, he won $17k so it was a $15k loss. Again not sure how many times he did that but I know he has no supper left.

So know he lives on the pension well not quite, first his phone was getting cut off for non payment then my sister and I realised he could not afford even basic food and was living on noodles. We spoon feed him money from my mums saving, effectively that is paying for his wine and smokes.

His situation is of his own making, he made bad choices and didn't take good advice. But you know government still has to provide support to people like him with the NDIS.

We may not like the circumstances we are living in but we can make the choices that is better for us, seem a lot of people don't do that then blame the goverment
