I still have my Fathers old little metal filing box (once upon a time lol) and one document in there, is an application acceptance from the Gov, for my Father to buy 100 ac's of land for 1 pound per ac. He turned it down as another 120 ac came up closer to the homestead.
The area originally was what you would call a Gov failed Peel settlement idea, which was supposedly for farming for a new settlement, for new arrivals. A lot of it was sandy country, no hope whatsoever of it being any good for farming, hence a failure and back on the market.
Mind you, all that sandy country today is valuable, as it has been getting developed for some years now, the Burbs have come lol. So we jumped over the other side of the Freeway on 65 ac, to escape the people lol.
