I have been following and trying to help people who are absolutely desperate to get a roof over their heads. But here in WA the prices have just run away. Quite a few think it may be a good idea to buy a block of land and build.
My heart sinks, as this is so risky, I do try to warn them though. We have a tenant who has been renting an old cottage from us for 22 years, in a small country town. It is an old asbestos house on just under 4 acres, we have done basic maintenance which is costing far too much as this little house really needs knocking down.
They signed another 1 year lease this February, but we really need to sell it to help out our family. They are just paying about $300 per week, it is not worth keeping any longer. So in April, I reluctantly said that in Feb 25 we will not be renewing the lease, as we are selling. We did not wish to sell while they were still living there.
But now I am really worried, there is nothing whatsoever to rent, certainly in that sort of price range and I don’t want to make anyone homeless. This keeps me awake at night. What to do?
