My heart sinks, as this is so risky, I do try to warn them though.
We have a tenant who has been renting an old cottage from us for 22 years, in a small country town. It is an old asbestos house on just under 4 acres, we have done basic maintenance which is costing far too much as this little house really needs knocking down.
They signed another 1 year lease this February, but we really need to sell it to help out our family. They are just paying about $300 per week, it is not worth keeping any longer. So in April, I reluctantly said that in Feb 25 we will not be renewing the lease, as we are selling. We did not wish to sell while they were still living there.
But now I am really worried, there is nothing whatsoever to rent, certainly in that sort of price range and I don’t want to make anyone homeless. This keeps me awake at night.
What to do?

Hi,
I understand how you feel but you can't be responsible for them. You have to take care of you and family first. I'm sure there will be another place for them somewhere. In the long run you are probably doing them a favour even if it's not visible right now.
If you look at the future, they can't stay there forever so at some point the lease had to end anyway for whatever reason.
