Seems that those who served in actual wars don't like it when jumped up rear echelon charlies attempt to claim that they also did whilst actually being 5,000 km away. Falsely boosting one's rank is also similarly frowned upon.

Unfortunately the days of pollies being caught lying being career-ending are long gone, now it's taken for granted, same for the media.

Insert old man rant about the decline of values and how things were better in my day through glasses so rose-tinted as to be opaque.
