You are right on the money with using a sugar type hit for stressed sick animals. Years ago during a flood our neighbour rang and said his horse had fallen into a sink hole near the creek and he needed help. The horse was very cold and shaking terribly. We had several goes with ropes but to no avail. In desperation he went back to the house and got a full bottle of whisky which he got down the horse’s neck. We added extra ropes and when the grog kicked in the old chestnut got fired up and staggered up the bank and out of the hole. If we have a calf with scours and have no Vytrate on hand we mix glucose and some salt in 2 l water. Anything to stop the dehydration which is the thing that kills them. I have been on the mend thank you.
