Brucellosis is not present in cattle in Australia following an extensive eradication program about 50 years ago. It has never been found in sheep or goats. Feral pigs do carry the bacteria and may pass it onto humans. I would think that Q fever and leptospirosis would be two debilitating disease far more prevalent in Australia. Employees at abattoirs are routinely vaccinated for Q fever before starting at the plant. The only way to prevent Leptospirosis affecting humans is to vaccinate all cattle with 7in1 while on the farm. Tests are available if you believe that exposure may have caused your illness.
