@Margaret63 - I hope her Mum is a basic good cook. When I look into some people's shopping baskets at the Supermarket, I am horrified, at the many 'ready-to' foods they buy. We need to get back to some basic good foods, home-cooked, even our breakfast cereal should be cooked porridge and not all this pre-mixed 'stuff' - I mix my own muesli and eat it raw, often with fresh fruit (berries mostly) - where you don't know what type of sugars they put in (we know for some time now that 'modern' sugar is no good for us, nor are the many varieties of vegetable oils, including sunflower oil.
Even just throwing a bunch of veggies and herbs into a pot with some meat and soup bones, and allowing that to stew gently for a few hours, is healthier than some of the tinned foods people buy. It is easy to cook healthy food.
I still have a problem with bread, in fact, I have some bread dough maturing right now in my kitchen and I love the yeasty-sour smell it spreads - that alone smells 'healthy'.
I have also gone back to some of my mother's frying methods, who used nothing but lard or butter - olive oil was used for salads. I now use a light olive oil for frying, too, but also use 'ghee' at times. Lard is brilliant for frying, that is unless you are of the Jewish faith or are Seventh-Day Adventist (as is NoBoDe) - or Vegetarian, of course.
I was listening to a health report the other day, can't remember who compiled it, but the essence was that the obesity epidemic has arisen since the advent of modern pre-packaged foods, especially their high sugar content and the use of sugars from the maize plant as well as vegetable oils (Olive Oil is not incuded in this, it is a healthy oil).
Dear Margaret, I always pass on your greetings to @NoBoDe who asked me yesterday would I send a warning to everyone, not to smoke. I'll see what I can do. Have a grand day, dear Lady; Taurisk
