take a look at ‘cheater’s high’
    Including it’s correlation with narcissism

it’s an interesting area. I’ve always wondered about it because I’ve seen it but can’t even begin to understand it.

I’m interested in any sort of behaviour where detachment might play a part.

something of potential interest - take with a grain of salt

“## Correlation Between Cheater’s High and Detachment in Sport

    **Summary:**
There is a documented correlation between experiencing a "cheater’s high"-the positive emotional boost some individuals feel after cheating-and psychological detachment from the act of cheating in sports.

    **Key Points:**

    - Research shows that athletes who cheat often experience positive emotions, such as satisfaction or thrill, rather than guilt, a phenomenon known as the "cheater’s high"[1][2][4].
    - This positive affect persists even when individuals are aware of their unethical behavior, suggesting a form of psychological detachment or moral disengagement[2][3].
    - Athletes with certain personality traits, such as narcissism, are more likely to detach from the morality of their actions, justifying cheating as necessary for personal success[5].
    - Moral disengagement allows athletes to rationalize or minimize the ethical implications of their actions, further enabling both cheating and the enjoyment derived from it[3][5].

    **Conclusion:**
Yes, there is a correlation: athletes who are able to detach morally from their actions are more likely to experience a cheater’s high, enjoying the act of cheating rather than feeling remorse[1][2][4][5].
